The sea of the Costa Viola with its magical colors is our window to the world

The meeting and merging of the cold and warm currents of the Ionian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea mean that the stretch waters are always crystal clear and swimmable during the period from May to October.

The long beaches composed of sand and fine gravel are ideal for a rejuvenating walk by the sea.

Our resort provides a shuttle for all guests who wish to spend a day at the beach.

Villa San Giovanni:

This is the junction point between Calabria and Sicily ; it is from here, in fact, that the ships departing daily the stretch of sea from Villa San Giovanni to Messina and vice versa.

The patronal feast is June 24, San Giovanni . The Cannitello area, with its promenade animated by bars, restaurants and pizzerias, hosts, on the second Saturday of August every year, the procession to the sea of the Madonna di Porto Salvo.

Scilla and Chianalea

Not far from Altafiumara Resort & Spa is the village of Scilla with the very famous Chianalea district, also known as “the little Venice of the South”.

Of striking beauty, this overlooks the Strait of Messina. On clear days, the Aeolian Islands can be seen on the horizon.

Marina Grande , 800m of beach along the Costa Viola, ideal for walking and admiring the majestic Ruffo Castle perched on the rock from below
The Ruffo di Scilla Castle , of uncertain origins, which houses a lighthouse of the Navy
The Chianalea district , which starts from the small port and continues along the coast. With fishermen's houses and moored boats, it is perfect for photography lovers;
Caves of Tremusa , with fossilized shells on the walls, can be reached by car along the road towards Melia di Scilla
Church of San Rocco, patron saint, to which the feast of San Rocco is linked, which takes place in the second half of August and culminates with the Midnight Fires

Bagnara Calabra

Not far from Scilla is the small town of Bagnara Calabra, whose long beach is divided in two by the Marturano hill.

In addition to the sea, Bagnara is embraced by mountains, whose inlets have formed some caves over time.

What this town is famous for is the artisan production of nougat and swordfish fishing.

Palmi

The city of Palmi rises above the sea behind the slopes of Monte Sant’Elia, from which there is a beautiful view.There are some bays on the coast, the most famous being the Tonnara bay, and some rocks, including the Scoglio dell’Ulivo.

Palmi is a city rich in traditions : that of the procession of the Varia , every year, is the most popular, so much so that it has been counted among the “oral and intangible heritages of humanity” by UNESCO .

Motta San Giovanni rises on a hill that dominates the panorama of the Strait of Messina.

Pentedattilo

About 7km up inland from the city of Melito Porto Salvo , where Giuseppe Garibaldi landed, the small village of Pentedattilo stands at the foot of a mountain with five peaks that recall the shape of a hand, hence the name.

This village, slowly depopulated over the years, is slowly being reborn with a series of small craft shops.

Every year, Pentedattilo is a stage of Paleariza , a summer festival that takes place in all the countries of the Grecanica area. Furthermore, in the month of September, the film festival is celebrated here.

Bova

The village, whose name in ancient Greek is Vua , is considered the capital of Greek culture in Calabria .

Of very ancient origins, it is perched on the slopes of a hill. To visit the Norman Castle and the Ethnographic Museum .

Among the culinary proposals , undoubtedly the “Lestopitta di Bova” is to be tried.
